First Insecure Writer's Support Group Post

This is going to be a bit of a contradictory post. The main topic is the Insecure Writer's Support Group but I also want to mention something awesome first.

The awesome part: this blog has 200 followers and it took less than 2 years. I'm so excited. And now that I have more time to blog, I will maybe even get more followers. Thank you everyone that is following this blog. I really appreciate it. You all are awesome!

Now to the main topic.

Here is the information about the group, first, the Insecure Writer's Support Group (IWSG) from Alex J. Cavanaugh's blog.
http://alexjcavanaugh.blogspot.com/p/insecure-writers-support-group.html

"Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer."

Now for the part about me. My insecurity for this post is the question, Will I finish anything to send out?

I am one who does many projects at once, and that makes it hard to finish anything. That time factor always seems to make me anxious because I have to do things that draw in an income since I'm an adult (surprised? lol) but at the same time, I love writing whenever I can. But I've spent 5 years working on writing so far and I haven't sent a single query out. I don't have a book ready yet. So, sometimes I am insecure about whether I will ever make it or not.

Anyone else feel like that? Make sure to check out some of the others but don't worry, you don't have to read every blog cause there are so many. ;-)

Yes, I totally hear you. It's the ADD, it can get frustrating. I finally forced myself to focus on one project. Just sent out my first 5 queries for the first completed project and received my first honest to goodness rejections. It has taken a couple of weeks to get excited about writing again. You will finish something eventually, but just like life, it isn't about arrivals and departures, it's the process we love. Right?

Sometimes I feel that way when I think of the three unfinished novels I have. I decided though I really enjoy writing short stories though which helps me get past the will I ever thing.

Hey, I sat on a book for thirty years - I bet you can do better than that! It's not a race. Enjoy the journey and know you will succeed.

Thanks for the comments.

Pam Torres - Yes. The ADD of writing. I am on a story then see something shiny and away I go. lol

Summer Ross - Good for you. I can't do short stories, they always come across as scenes for longer items. But good you found something that works for you.

Alex J. Cavanaugh - Great idea for the group. Wow, 30 years... I'm not even 30 yet so I have some time before I can have an idea or finished book to wait on. ;-)

You will. I lingered for years before finishing or publishing anything!

Came over also to invite you to The Rule of Three Blogfest ---a month-long shared-world extravaganza in the fictional town of Renaissance in October with some great prizes, and of course, a lot of exposure for your writing. Check it out :)

I recently read a book by an author who published her first novel at 80, then she kept on publishing. I bought all 5 of hers. They're great - Sybil Marshall. It really encouraged me to keep plugging away. I have 2 unfinished novels but write and publish short stories.

Pick out one or two of your pieces and find a Critique Partner to send them too. Get feedback. Then start sending them out. Taking that first step is hard.

One of the best things I did was write flash fiction online. It improved my writing more than anything else.

I feel a success story coming on...

Damyanti - Thanks for the comment and the invite.

Denise - Thanks for the comment and tips. I have some friends who want to read some of my books but I need to do an edit first. I try flash fiction, just don't do it well. Glad it works for you and hope to see more of your writing cause you're great.

I do have that problem and it took me years to finally finish one project and submit it. Then, the next one. I'm working on my third at the present time:)
