J is for Just Do It

That's right: Just Do It!

It's a great slogan. Nike got it right picking that one and while I don't really own anything Nike at this point, maybe in the future, I do like the little check mark logo and the slogan they use with it. And it's a simple point and yet has a lot of power behind it.

With health and fitness, there comes a point where we just need to do it. Leave those excuses behind and get to work. I have a hard time following this when it comes to exercise. Which is weird because I love to exercise when I'm doing it. Weight lifting, volleyball, swimming, treadmill, zumba and many other types of exercise are all awesome and I enjoy when I'm doing them. But I have a hard time with that whole, get started part. I need to work on just doing it.

Writing can benefit from this slogan as well. There is always a reason to not write, lack of motivation, muse on vacation, sleep, but in order to get anywhere with the story, we have to actually write it. With the novel that I'm editing now, the first draft I started writing in 2007 and finished the 23,000 word first draft in 2009. Most of that time I wasn't actually working on it, wrote a 50,000 word novel for 2008 NaNoWriMo. How did I finish? I just wrote. Even when I struggles, I sat down and just started writing and got it done.

So... Just Do It!

What do you think about the slogan?
Have you used it in your life?
